Position Summary

The Budget Technician provides embedded financial management and budget analysis support to the 81st Readiness Division staff at Fort Jackson, SC. The technician is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and reporting on budget execution across assigned programs, leveraging Army automated financial systems and Microsoft Office tools to produce accurate, timely data products and trend analyses for senior leadership consumption.

This is a 100% on-site position at Fort Jackson, SC.

Key Responsibilities

Budget Execution & Financial Management

  • Monitor and track budget execution across assigned accounts and programs in support of the 81st Readiness Division's operational requirements
  • Process and reconcile financial transactions, obligation documents, and funding actions using GCSS-A, GFEBS, or equivalent DoD financial management systems
  • Assist in the development of budget estimates, spend plans, and reprogramming actions in coordination with the resource manager
  • Identify funding shortfalls, surpluses, and execution trends; prepare recommendations to support command-level resource decisions

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain data visualizations, dashboards, and trend analyses using Microsoft Power BI to support executive-level financial reporting
  • Build and maintain Excel-based financial tracking tools, pivot tables, and models to support spend plan management and execution rate analysis
  • Produce routine and ad hoc budget reports, status-of-funds briefings, and financial summary products for the 81st Readiness Division's leadership
  • Analyze historical expenditure data to identify patterns, forecast future obligations, and support long-range financial planning

Systems Management & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and current data in Army financial systems (GCSS-A, GFEBS, or equivalent); ensure records are reconciled and audit-ready
  • Ensure all financial documentation and processes comply with applicable DoD regulations, Army financial management directives, and internal command policies
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing supporting documentation and responding to data calls in a timely manner

Coordination & Staff Support

  • Coordinate with program managers, action officers, and higher HQ resource managers to validate funding requirements and resolve execution issues
  • Participate in staff meetings, resource synchronization boards, and financial reviews as required
  • Provide technical guidance and system support to staff sections on financial management processes and tool usage

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Budget and Accounting functions at the Division level or equivalent within a DoD or equivalent environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Army automated financial/logistical systems, specifically GCSS-A, GFEBS, or a recognized DoD equivalent
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI, with demonstrated experience in conducting data and trend analysis
  • Microsoft Data Analyst Associate certification (Power BI) required no later than the start of full performance
  • Microsoft Office experience required
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate financial products and brief senior leaders on budget status and trends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting the 81st Readiness Division or an Army Service Component Command (ASCC) financial management function
  • Familiarity with the 81st Readiness Division's mission, staff structure, and budget processes
  • Experience with DoD audit readiness, internal controls, or financial system reconciliation
  • Background in operational-level resource management, including execution rate monitoring and spend plan management
  • Experience working in joint, interagency, or multinational staff environments

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Location: Fort Jackson, SC — 100% on-site; remote work is not available for this position
  • Schedule: Operational tempo demands flexibility; candidates must be available as mission requirements dictate
  • Equipment: All necessary government/client-furnished equipment will be provided
