As a Senior Datacenter Architect at VC3, you will be part of a team of skilled professionals providing technical solutions to a wide range of customers. This position offers the opportunity to work with some of the most talented engineers in VC3 and to grow with a stable managed services provider with a 25-year history of providing a full range of IT solutions.
The role will provide a high level of technical expertise that will be shared through the team. It will require knowledge transfers to other technical and non-technical staff via excellent communication and detailed documentation. They will work with other Engineers and Architects to deploy equipment and tools, as well as provide technical expertise during internal projects. This position will be working remotely but may require travel to locations where VC3 operates.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Solutions teams to design and implement efficient and scalable data center architecture.
- Ensure optimal configurations for servers, Hyper-V clusters, backup systems, SAN, and network components.
- Assist with planning, designing, and implementing solutions that benefit VC3 clients or VC3 internal stakeholders; these solutions can be cloud-based, SaaS, or based out of our private data center.
- Assist in the development of budgets for datacenter operations, considering costs associated with servers, networking equipment, storage, and other infrastructure components.
- Conduct regular cost analysis to optimize spending and identify potential areas for cost savings.
- Develop and execute plans for hardware and software lifecycle management.
- Oversee capacity planning for existing Infrastructure and future Datacenter deployments
- Forecast resource requirements for servers, network bandwidth, storage, and other critical components. Calculate values to resources based on historical density for accurate growth capex budgeting.
- Work with the Manager of the Solutions team to oversee the day-to-day operations of the data center, ensuring continuous availability and optimal performance.
- Work with Senior Manager of NOC to configure or design automations that regularly perform health checks, maintenance routines, and inspections of data center infrastructure for NOC to monitor.
- Work with CISO Implement and enforce security protocols to ensure compliance.
- Respond promptly to any operational issues, troubleshoot, and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and adjust resource allocations to optimize hardware utilization.
- Implement proactive measures to prevent and mitigate potential escalations
- Provide escalation support for critical issues, collaborating with Solutions teams to resolve incidents promptly.
- Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers to expedite issue resolution.
- Conduct post-escalation reviews to identify root causes and implement preventative measures.
- Work with the Solutions Team Network Architects and Engineers to ensure robust and secure Connectivity.
- Develop and implement comprehensive backup strategies for all datacenter assets, including VC3 Internal, Client Hosted Infrastructure, and colocation services.
- Design and implement Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies with the Solutions Team to ensure data integrity and system availability.
- Work with Manager of the Backup team to manage daily datacenter backup operations, conduct regular health checks, maintain comprehensive runbooks, and validate data integrity through testing.
- Coordinate with teams to test disaster recovery strategies and ensure RTO/RPO of recovery.
- Ensure all documentation related to the datacenter environment is kept up to date.
- Establish standards for documentation completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain and update SOPs to reflect changes in technology and processes.
- Performing other tasks as defined, planned, and approved by leadership
- Additional duties as required.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant technical experience, with at least five years of experience in a senior role
- Proven experience in datacenter management and infrastructure design. Experience in running hosted environments, Datacenter, storage networks, computer environments.
- Understand client and server hardware configurations including redundancy and RAID architectures
- Understand connectivity solutions, including Internet (BGP), P2P, MPLS, EVPL, SDWAN, VPN.
- Strong budgeting and cost analysis skills.
- Familiarity with capacity planning tools and methodologies.
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise backup solutions experience
- Expert knowledge of cloud services such as Office 365, Azure, Google Apps and Amazon Web Services
Additional Skills (preferred, not required):
- Citrix experience
- Hyper-V experience
- Microsoft SQL server administration experience
- Familiarity with router and switch configuration, operation, and maintenance, routing protocols, TCP/IP, network management, network analysis, and network security
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CDCDP, CDCP or CCNP) are a plus.
